Son of Late Shri Rasil Singh; born on 27th March, 1964 at Nadaun, Distt. Hamirpur; M.A., LL.B.; married to Smt. Kamlesh Thakur; two daughters; Political Worker.

Elected Class Representative in 1981-82 & 1982-83, Elected General Secretary in 1983-84 and Elected President in 1984-85 at Govt. Degree College Sanjauli, Shimla; Elected Department Representative Law Department, HPU, 1985-86; State President, NSUI, 1989-95; General Secretary, State Youth Congress, 1995-1998; President, State Youth Congress, 1998 to 2008; Councillor, Municipal Corporation, Shimla (twice) 1992-97 & 1997-2002; General Secretary, Pradesh Congress Committee, 2008-12; and President, Pradesh Congress Committee from 2013 to 2019.

Elected to State Legislative Assembly in 2003, 2007 and 2017; and Chief Whip, Congress Legislature Party, 2007-12. Remained Member, Public Undertakings, Privileges and Business Advisory Committees.

Focused on inclusive socio-economic development of the society for improving life of the residents of the State and meeting with electorate on a monthly basis to discuss any issues they might have in their area.

Re-elected to the Fourteenth Vidhan Sabha (4th term) in December, 2022; assumed the office of Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh on 11th December, 2022.

Favourite Pastime: Reading and playing cricket.
